| Dateringsargumentatie: de laat middeleeuwse opengewerkte hangers komen al voor in de 12e eeuw (Ashley 2002, 6-7/Griffiths 1995, 62). Maar er bestaan ook enkele exemplaren die op basis van hun overeenkomst met paardentuigbeslag uit de periode 950-1100 gedateerd worden in de 10e tot 12e eeuw (Spoelder 2018, 10). Daarom is gekozen een brede datering te handhaven. | |

| Definition | (1) Loose hanger, or a combination of a hanger and a fitting, incorporated into horse harness, with decorative function; (2) Made of copper alloy; (3) the pendant has a transverse eyelet, (4) which was placed in a fitting piece with two transverse eyelets; (5) the eyelets of the pendant and the fittings are hinged by a pin, which allows the hanger to move freely; (6) The pendant has an openwork shape. |
| Explanation | Variable characteristics: (1) regularly tinned, gilded and/or enamelled; (2) various shapes, including diamond-shaped, circular, lobed, or angled; (3) sometimes with a moving element in the pendant. |
| Dating argumentation: the late medieval openwork pendants already occur in the 12th century (Ashley 2002, 6-7/Griffiths 1995, 62). But there are also some specimens that are dated to the 950th to 1100th centuries on the basis of their similarity with horse harness fittings from the period 10-12 (Spoelder 2018, 10). That is why it was decided to maintain a broad date. | |
